Daily Brief: a 230–205 House edge, with control 13 seats away
A 25-seat House gap leaves Republicans a 13-seat path to a majority if those Democratic picks change. Kansas and Iowa show how narrow individual Senate projections remain.
Evidence as of
Democrats lead 21CEE’s October 26 evening House projection 230–205. That is a 25-seat gap between the parties, but it leaves Democrats only 12 seats above the 218 needed for a majority. If 13 of those Democratic picks instead go Republican, with every other result unchanged, the balance becomes 217–218. Sources: 21CEE issued evening Daily Report, October 26, 2026
Two of the narrowest Senate projections favor different parties. Republican Roger Marshall leads by 0.42 percentage points in Kansas; Democrat Josh Turek leads by 0.52 in Iowa. The latest selected interviews ended October 14 in Kansas and October 22 in Iowa. Both projected margins are small, and neither is a measure of how certain the outcome is. The full Senate map is 51 Democratic, 47 Republican and two independent seats, including seats not contested this year. Sources: 21CEE issued evening Daily Report, October 26, 2026
